This proof-of-concept works well already, but there are plenty of ways to take it further, with and without AI:
- AI-generated blurbs → Instead of cycling through a static list, integrate ChatGPT, for personalised birthday message each time.
- Work anniversaries → Same script, different date column, different blurbs. Celebrate tenure milestones alongside birthdays.
- Shout-outs for new joiners → Auto-post a “Welcome [Name]!” message on Day 1 (and maybe again after their first month).
- Approval log → Save Approve/Reject/Regenerate actions into a second tab in the sheet as an audit trail.
- Opt-in messages → DM the person directly to ask if they’d like a birthday shout-out this year.
- Scheduled nudge → If nobody in People Team approves/rejects within 24 hours, ping them with a reminder.
- Integrate with your HRIS → Pull birthdays directly from your HR system API, no manual sheet maintenance.
- Culture-aware copy → If you store location, AI can adapt blurbs to match cultural norms (e.g. formal vs casual styles).
- “On this day” trivia → Add a fun fact about what happened historically on their birthday.
- AI-selected gifs → Use the person’s Slack bio keywords or favourite things to pick a themed gif.
- Colleague shout-in → AI can summarise 1–2 kudos pulled from recent peer feedback to include in the birthday post.
- Sass slider → Generate three blurbs at different sass levels (“polite”, “casual”, “extra spicy”) and let the People Team choose.
